First-to-Market Development
of Sleep Measurement API

Zeo Inc. announces open API to support new innovations in
sleep technology and health, wellness and fitness tracking

BOSTON, Mass. (June 3, 2010) — Zeo Inc., creators of the Zeo Personal Sleep Coach, today announced the opening of its development API. As purveyor of the world’s first science-based sleep educational tool, Zeo Inc. continues to lead the consumer sleep technology industry as the first consumer sleep product to develop an API.

Multiple health studies have shown that consistent quality sleep is as essential to achieving optimal health as good nutrition and daily fitness. With the announcement of this API, developers can now create new applications that monitor cause and effect patterns between sleep and activities such as dieting, athletic training and job productivity.

For the first time, developers will be able to access Zeo’s unique nightly sleep data including:

  • Total Z - Total Sleep Time
  • Amount of Deep Sleep
  • Amount of REM Sleep
  • Number of Times Woken
  • ZQ - A cumulative measure of one night of sleep that takes into account total sleep time and quality of sleep (the amount of restorative sleep achieved and disrupted sleep)

Two leading personal health resources are offering initial Alpha programs, planning to integrate Zeo’s unique sleep measurement tools into their everyday body metric systems. These include DailyBurn, which IAC recently acquired a majority stake in and will be managed by Mindspark, and RunKeeper, a mobile fitness platform for smartphones like iPhone and Android that enables runners and other fitness enthusiasts to track, measure, and improve their fitness. DailyBurn will add ZQ and Total Z to its body metrics tracking, allowing users to better understand the relationship between sleep and their weight loss. RunKeeper will track users’ activity and compare against nutrition, weight and sleep.

“This is an exciting time for consumer sleep education, with Zeo being directly in the intersection of personal health and electronics.” said Ben Rubin, Zeo chief technology officer and co-founder. “Soon, Universities will be able to expand their sleep science research, fitness companies can create sleep fitness applications, and individuals will be empowered with scientifically-based information to take control of their personal wellness. I have no doubt we’ll see truly innovative applications built with Zeo’s API.”

The Zeo API will be available to developers the second half of 2010. To learn more about Zeo’s API Developer Program, please visit http://developers.myzeo.com/signup/.
